Happy Healthy Walking

Saturday, June 29th, 1-5 p.m., Stanford Inn, Mendocino

Rediscover and practice all the joint motions required in a single footstep, enabling you to walk with fluidity and efficiency. Added bonuses: Joint pain may resolve, balance may improve!

Gait is a universal repetitive human movement that involves every joint in your body in all three dimensions of movement (a mouthful of a sentence…you might want to re-read it!). Even a sedentary person takes 2000-3000 steps a day — imagine how many times an active person is repeating the gait cycle (from heel strike to heel strike).

We all have biases and asymmetries in our movement patterns. For example, I often see a ribcage that rotates right and back to center, but never left. So, thousands of times those biases/asymmetries get reinforced, almost definitely showing up in all other activities (e.g. picking up a baby, sports, gardening, etc.).

This is a full-body approach that includes the 33 joints in each of your feet! Yes, a quarter of all the joints in your body are in your feet, which are often neglected in standard fitness practices. You will gain both a conceptual and experiential knowledge of your joint biomechanics in gait, empowering you to practice and troubleshoot your gait patterns.

Knowledge is power!
Gaining access to all joint motions necessary in a single footstep is liberating!

NOTE: As an added bonus, it turns out the joint motions necessary for optimal gait, are also the joint motions necessary for most of the movements in both affairs of daily living and many movement practices (e.g. yoga, dance, weight lifting, etc.).

You will go home with an owner’s manual for your walking biomechanics: How do my joints work? What do they need? Troubleshoot -> Problem Solve
